Creative Holiday Activities for Seniors: Keeping the Fun Alive

As the holidays arrive, it becomes imperative to consider keeping seniors in nursing homes involved and amused. Lakeside Rehab & Care Center also understands that it is necessary to make the residents’ environment entertaining and challenging during the festive period. Here are some creative holiday activities that can help keep the fun alive and bring joy to our seniors:

  • Holiday Crafts: Seniors can be encouraged by being provided with arts and crafts to spark their imaginations. Set up a crafting station using construction paper, glue, and glitter. Motivate residents to make holiday-related decorations like garlands, wreaths, and ornaments around the nursing home.
  • Sing-Along: music is a universal language that can unite people. Set up a holiday carol sing-along with traditional Christmas melodies and jingles. Offer residents song sheets, allowing them to sing or play along as they please.
  • Holiday Movie Night: This is an excellent way of relaxing and spreading the holiday spirit. Consider revisiting the past with classic movies and enjoying a warm cup of hot chocolate and popcorn for a nice and comfy movie night.
  • Secret Santa: Seniors in nursing homes can have a similar holiday tradition of gift exchanges. Conduct a Secret Santa whereby the residents pick names and give out little presents. This can be a perfect way to spread holiday cheer among seniors and, at the same time, promote unity.

However, at Lakeside Rehab & Care Center, everyone should have a lovely holiday season. Adding these creative activities to this programming helps us keep our residents involved and attached to the season’s joy.
